Podcast EP 02: História das Mulheres na cafeicultura
(Eduardo Garcia, 2017-07-19) Strizi, Regina; Viggiani, Josephina; Carmo P., Bruno Bortoloto do; Amorim, Pietro Marchesini
They are harvesting coffee, working on the drying pátios, trading, cupping professionally and making scientific researches. They are everywhere! In the past, however, their presence and importance in the Brazilian coffee production were not ofically registered in documents, contracts and receipts. The cycle of women’s invisibility in the coffee industry perpetuates until the actual days, but with a difference: now they are organizing themselves. In order to understand better this foggy past related to women in coffee in Brazil, we invited the Historian Ana Luiza Martins to tell us what we never learn in books. This is a really interesting episode for everyone who wants to know more about Brazilian women in coffee, however, the interview is in Portuguese.

Podcast EP 17 - Livro Mulheres dos Cafés
(Eduardo Garcia, 2019-11-12) Salgado, Brígida; Arzabe, Cristina
Countless works about the history of Brazilian coffee production have ignored the presence of women in every segment of production. With no documents, photos, books, receipts or paintings that prove the importance of work of these brave women in both rural and urban areas; it is almost impossible to revisit this important past. It is as if they were invisible, as I discussed in EP 02 História das Mulheres do Café (in Portuguese) with the Historian Ana Luiza Martins. For this reason, IWCA Brasil in partnership with 22 research institutions and 44 authors, published for the first Women in Coffee book in 2017! Our guests, the organic coffee producer Brígida Salgado and the Embrapa Café researcher Cristina Arzabe describe how this collaborative work was done with a limited budget in this Portuguese language episode. If you are interested in reading this book, checkout the free English version (translated from the original Portuguese) on this page.
