With the objective of evaluating genotypes of Catuai coffee in the growing conditions of Acre an experiment was conducted at Embrapa Acre, Rio Branco, AC , at an altitude of 160 m. The experiment was established in a Distrophic Red Yellow Podzol, using a randomized block design with eight treatments and five repetitions, in plots of three holes (two plants/hole). Planting was made in March 1996, with spacing of 3m among lines and 2m among holes, using seeds from crossings made by the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC). The characteristics studied were: coffee production, vegetative aspects and incidence of pests and diseases in the plants and beans of coffee. Some agronomic characteristics such as high productivity, tolerance to Hemileia vastratrix, good uniformity of fruit maturation and good vegetative vigor could be observed, showing the great adaptation of the Catuai coffee in conditions of high temperature and low altitude. In these conditions, the genotypes of Catuaí presented smaller levels of flower abortion, were more resistant to the drought and present smaller leaf loss index. Plant growth in the first three harvests, yield of processed coffee (bags/ha) and other characteristics studied, show that the Catuai genotypes IAC 4275, IAC 11669-20 and IAC 4466 with mean productivity of 36, 30 and 28 bags/ha of processed coffee, respectively, are promising for cultivation in Acre. It was also verified that the vegetative aspects of the plants are closely related with a larger production of those genotypes .
