The objective of this study was to establish adequate doses of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers for yield and sustainability of coffee production. One experiment was conducted during 1999/00 and 2000/01 seasons with Obatã cultivar. The crop was established in 1998 on a 3.0 x 0.75m spacing. The experimental design was a factorial NK (4x4) with N rates of 25, 100, 200 and 400 Kg ha-1 and K rates of 20, 80, 160 and 320 Kg ha -1 of K2O. The application of increasing rates of N promoted linear increase in the number of fruits, length of internodes of plagiotropic branches and the diameter of the canopy. There was interaction N x K with respect to the number of flower. The interactions NxK were observed only for the lower rates of N (25 and 100 Kg ha-1 of N). Linear responses on coffee yield were observed for N at rates of K20 above 80 Kg ha-1. A low rates of K2O (20 Kg ha-1) N responses on yield were limited up to rates of 265 Kg ha-1 of N.
