Since the coffee leaf miner causes plantation defoliation that accounts for losses in coffee production, this insect is considered a very important pest in coffee farms. Thus, the present study aimed to contribute to the development of new insecticides of plant origin to control such insect. Consequently, a phytochemical study about leaves of Chrysophyllum gonocarpum (Mart. & Eichler) Engl. was carried out. From the corresponding methanol extract, which presented activity against the coffee leaf miner, three substances were isolated after solvent extractions and chromatographic processes. After hydrogen and carbon thirteen nuclear magnetic resonance analyses, they were identified as squalene, α-tocopherol and cis-octadec-9-enoic acid, which was active against the insect in laboratory tests.
