Fez-se uma análise do consumo específico de energia e dos custos do uso do vapor de água para aquecimento do ar de secagem de café (Coffea arábica L.). Utilizaram-se secadores horizontais rotativos para a pré-secagem e de fluxos cruzados intermitentes para complementar a secagem do café com ar aquecido a 60ºC. A secagem em terreiro foi usada como testemunha. Conclui-se que o custo aparente foi de R$3,46 por saca de 60 quilos de café seco e beneficiado, e que o custo real, no qual se inclui o investimento inicial, foi de R$13,61 por saca. A operação realizada em secador horizontal foi mais eficiente que aquela feita no secador vertical de fluxos cruzados, em termos de consumo específico de energia. Concluiu-se,
também, por meio de simulações, que se a caldeira usada na produção de vapor operasse com sua capacidade total, o sistema apresentaria menor consumo específico de energia.
An analysis of the specific consumption of energy and of the comparative costs of the use of the water vapor for heating of the air of drying of coffee (Arabic Coffea L.) was done. Rotative horizontal dryers were used for the previous drying and of intermittent crossed flows for finish drying, with temperature of the air of 60ºC. The drying in yard was used as witness. It is ended that the apparent cost was of R$3,46 for bag of 60 kilos of processed dried coffee. The real cost, where the initial investment is included, was of R$13,61/bag. The operation accomplished in horizontal dryer was more efficient than that one accomplished in the vertical dryer of crossed flows, in terms of specific consumption of energy. It was concluded also that, if the boiler were to be used on its total capacity, this system would present smaller specific consumption of energy for this pourpose.
