Between July 13 and July 25 there were seven days with radiative frost in the region of Londrina, North of Parana State, Brazil. During this period, several alternatives of frost protection on young coffee plantations were evaluated, as following: 1. Total buring of the plants; 2. Partial buring of the plants leaving the upper leaf pair uncovered; 3. Covering with a bambu colm dressing the plant; 4. Covering with bambu colm cut in half; 5. Covering with paper bags; 6. Covering with 5 liters transparent plastic bags; 7. Covering with 5 liters buble plastic bags; 8. Covering with PVC pipes cut in half; 9. Covering with beans manure; 10. Covering with rice manure; 11. Control without protection. Temperatures were measured and recorded each second, with termocouples attached to the underside of one leaf. Two coffee plants were measured in each treatment and an average value was obtained. Results showed that: a) Total buring and plant manure (beans and rice) were the best protection options; b) Bambu colms cut in halves offered effective protection; c) Entire colms of bambu dressing the coffee plants and PVC cut in half offered some protection, but it was not enough to prevent frost damage; d) Covering with paper and plastic bags were not effective for frost protection.
