The control of coffee pests and diseases has been made, almost exclusively, with the application of pesticides, most of which can cause negative impacts to the environment and to humans. Alternatively to the use of conventional pesticides, less impacting methods of control less are desirable, for example, the use of extracts of plants, which can present several substances (terpenes, alkaloids, phenols, tannins etc.) with adverse effects on pests and diseases. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of extracts of plants from Minas Gerais in the control of leaf cutting ants Atta sexdens rubropilosa Forel. The experiment was developed in climatic chambers at 25 ± 2ºC, relative humidity of 70% ± 10% and photophase of 12 hours. Forty plant extracts were tested, being applied to the diet of the test insects. It was verified that only the botanical extracts codified as FOR VSF 351 and FOR VSF 164 present lethal effect, with mortality average of 53.3 e 80.0%, respectively.
