The coffee leaf miner causes great losses to Brazilian coffee farmers, since the production is reduced by the attacks of such insect to plant leaves. As a consequence, this work was aimed to contribute for the development of new methods to control the coffee leaf miner by phytochemical studies of two plants widespread in the south of Minas Gerais State: Geonoma schottiana Mart. and Actinostemon concolor (Spreng.) Müll. Arg. From the former were isolated the glycosilated flavonoids vitexin and isovitexin, which have already been described as insecticides. From A. concolor was obtained a new dihydroquinone and a polyprenol mixture comprising ficaprenol-10, -11 and -12, which like the quinone, was active against the coffee leaf miner. Future studies should be carried out to evaluate the above mentioned extracts and substances on the control of such insect.
