USO DE IMAGENS COMPUTADORIZADAS PARA AVALIAÇÃO DO VIGOR DE SEMENTES DE CAFÉ

Abstract

A utilização de imagens computadorizadas para avaliação de vigor de sementes é tida como promissora, visto a capacidade em estimar, com eficiência e sem erros humanos, as expressões de vigor como crescimento, uniformidade de plântulas e velocidade de germinação. O software SVIS (Seed Vigor Imaging System) analisa e processa as imagens do teste de germinação, marca todas as plantulas, mensura o comprimento e, com este dado, gera um valor médio de crescimento e uniformidade. Com estes dois valores o software calcula um índice de vigor, que é função das porcentagens atribuídas a cada valor de crescimento e uniformidade. Assim, na busca de testes rápidos e eficientes para a avaliação do vigor de sementes de café, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o potencial de utilização do software SVIS para esta cultura. Foram utilizados oito lotes de sementes das cultivares Rubi, Catuai, Acaiá e Topázio, provenientes de dois anos sucessivos de produção para a realização do experimento. Foram instalados dois testes de germinação para avaliação pelo software. No primeiro teste foram realizadas leituras diárias para obtenção das melhores configurações do escaner, do software e também para conhecimento do melhor dia para obtenção das imagens após a semeadura. No segundo teste, foram realizadas avaliações segundo configurações definidas para se verificar a consistência entre os resultados do SVIS e as expressões de vigor avaliadas por meio do teste de germinação, para os mesmos lotes. Observou-se que os resultados dos índices de vigor obtidos do software SVIS foram consistentes com os resultados obtidos no teste de germinação e conclui-se que a configuração utilizada neste experimento, para sementes de café, mostrou-se potencialmente capaz de avaliar e diferenciar lotes de diferentes níveis de vigor.

The use of computerized images do evaluate seed vigor is promising, because of the capacity in estimate, with efficacy and without human mistakes, the vigor expressions as seedlings growth and uniformity, as also germination velocity. The software Seed Vigor Imaging System (SVIS) analyzes the germination test images, it marks all the seedlings, it measures the growth and, with this data, it makes an average of growth and uniformity. With those values (growth and uniformity), the SVIS makes a vigor index, that is function of percentage of each value. Therefore, looking for quick and efficient tests to evaluate coffee seeds vigor, the objective of this research was to evaluate the potential of utilization of the SVIS to this crop. It was used eight seed lots of the cultivars Rubi, Catuaí, Acaiá and Topazio, from two years of harvest. It was installed two germination tests to be evaluated by the software. The first test it was realized daily counts to obtain the best configurations of the scanner, of the software and also to know the best day to obtain the images after planting. In the second test the evaluations were performed according to the defined configurations to verify the consistencies between the SVIS results and the results obtained from the other vigor expressions of the germination tests. It was observed that the results of the vigor index provided by the SVIS were consistent to the results obtained in the germination test and it concludes that the used configuration in this research, for coffee seeds, it was potentially able to evaluate and differentiate the lot with different vigor levels.
