The coffee is an important crop grown in Brazil, being responsible for a large participation in the trade balance as the country’s leading production and export worldwide. Due to the susceptibility of the crop to infestation by nematodes, large production losses are caused when its occurrence in coffee plantations. The use of chemical nematicides to control nematode population has guaranteed a good coffee yield. This study aimed to evaluate penetration of 2nd stage juveniles of Meloidogyne exigua in roots of coffee seedlings "New World" treated with abamectin-based products. The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse and in the Nematology Laboratory of the Agricultural Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Federal University of Uberlandia, from March 16 to April 18, 2010, in a completely randomized design consisting of six treatments with 10 repetitions. The treatments were: control (no application of chemical); Abath (Abamectin + Thiamethoxan) in three doses of 0.45 mL, 0.75 mL and 1.05 mL per seedling of coffee; Aba84 (Abamectin) at a dose of 0.32 mL per seedling of coffee; 150 Counter (terbufos) in a dose of 12.0 g per seedling coffee. Inoculation consisted in adding 10 mL of the suspension of nematodes in three holes made in the soil from each bag, for a total of 2,500 eggs of M. exigua. The assessment of penetration of nematodes was performed 30 days after inoculation, by method of staining nematodes in roots. All chemical treatments have shown lower penetration of the nematodes in the roots of coffee plants, differing from the control. Among the treatments, with respect to the percentage reduction in nematode penetration, there was a variation of 73.6% to 96.7%. The greatest percentage reduction occurred in the treatment Abath 0.75 ml per plant differed from other treatments except for the treatment Abath dose of 1.05 mL. The smallest decrease was obtained by treating Aba84 not different from the application of counter 150.
