The new trend in the coffee agribusiness is the production of clones by tissue culture, with emphasis on somatic embryogenesis. The acclimatization of these seedlings is one of the key points of this process. We conducted this study to evaluate the effect of the presence of an apparatus to assist in the development of plants obtained via indirect somatic embryogenesis. The survey was conducted with in vitro acclimatized plants to in presence and absence of a support device. Seedlings were evaluated based on the number of leaves, shoot height, stem diameter, and fresh and dry weight of shoot and root system. Analyses were performed in two stages, the first 23 months after explant inoculation and the second two months later in order to evaluate somaclones growth and development. It was used a randomized design with one plant per plot and 15 replications. Data were submitted to multivariate analysis using the Statistica program and the results indicated higher vigour to the somaclones that were grown with the support device. However, root malformation was observed in the two treatments and further study is suggested to adress this problem.
