With the objective of evaluating the working potentiality of an agroforestal system from an agroecological point of view for improving soil quality, by means of indicators associated with organic matter; two properties in the Zona da Mata in Minas Gerais, had the soil sampled and analyzed. The samples were obtained at three depths, 0-5; 5-15 and 15-30 cm, the collection of the covering organic matters, was also carried out at random, in ten places for each plot of +or- 0,5 ha. An evaluation was carried out on the chemical properties of light free organic matter and light intra-aggregated organic matter. Fractions of organic carbon extracted at a decreasing gradient of oxidation, humic substances, the nutrient content of organic covering and an identification of the impact on the environment were analyzed. The results indicate that the agroforestal system under agroecological management (SA), when compared with a conventional management system (SC), causes a better power of recuperation in eroded soils poor in nutrients. The agroecological system increased the grade of the organic soil matter, FL-Free, Humic substances, fractions of organic carbon extracted from a gradient of oxidation and nutrient contents of the organic covering. There were increases, although not significant, in the values of the intra-aggregated organic matter, CTC to pH 7, CTC effective, SB, V, P and K available, decreases in Al 3+ and (H+Al) were also observed. The exercise in perception and characterization of environmental impact permitted the identification in the SA of 215 relative effects of positive impacts, direct and indirect on the physical, biotic and anthropological environments. A total relation of 42% being observed in the physical environment. The management system, from a studied agroecocological point of view, in general, presented a better quality of soil in relation to its chemical properties and its organic matter, showing a greater power of soil recuperation, being, due to its stimulative use, which could result in a good alternative in soil were the terrain is rough and has low nutrient content and besides it contributes as a mechanism for capturing C-CO2 from the atmosphere.
