ABSTRACT: The present work was developed in the experimental area of the Department of Agriculture in the Section of Coffee growing of the Universidade Federal de Lavras, Lavras-MG. Coffee tree cv was used. Topázio MG-1190, of 28 months of age, in the spacing of 1,80 x 0,70 m. The cultivation system with high number of plants for area. The overhead irrigation was for leak, and the originators were to 40 cm one of the other ones and outlet of 4 L/H each one. They formed a strip wet, continuous. The experiment was installed in July of 1998. The treatments were of 5 different irrigation times: April to July = E-1; April to June = E-2; May to June = E-4; September to November = E-3 and August to October = E-5, frequently of irrigation in Tuesdays and Fridays. For the irrigation handling it was used the evaporation data of the Class A pan. The supplied amount was the difference in the period of each irrigation, when just the credit in the swinging of 83% of ECA less precipitation. The culture coefficient used it was of 1,10. It was analyzed the revenue of the crop 2000 and the chemical and sensorial quality and the results of this first crop. There was not difference among the treatments, being needed the continuity of this work by more time to do more conclusive statements.
