Green manures in coffee crops can improve soil characteristics which’ll improve coffee plants nutrition status by supplying N through Biological Nitrogen Fixation (BNF). The aim of this study was to evaluate the decomposition of sunnhemp, green manure, to determine the N release as a function of providing the synchronization to the coffee crop. Treatments were consisted of nine dates of decomposition of sunnhemp collected at 0, 3, 7, 12, 18, 25, 32, 40 and 60 days, beginning on 01/29/2010. On each date was determined the dry matter, N content and time of half life (T1/2). The T1/2 of remaining dry matter of sunnhemp was estimated to 96.3 days. The T1/2 of remaining N of sunnhemp was 33.3 days. During the period, corresponding to grain at maturity in coffee plants, 69.1% of N was released. The decomposition of sunnhemp mass may provide part of N for coffee during the grain at maturity.
