The coffee red spider mite Oligonychus ilicis has already been mentioned as the second pest in importance to the conilon coffee Coffea canephora in the state of Espírito Santo, being the temperature the most important environmental factor that affects the population of tetranychid. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different temperatures on the development of O. ilicis in C. canephora. To conduct the experiment, 80 adult females were taken from breeding and confined in 40 arenas. In each arena 2 females were placed for oviposition, stored at 21, 24, 27, 30 and 33 oC. The time of development of immature stages of O. ilicis decreased gradually with the increase of temperature. The stages of egg, larva, protochrysalis, protonymph, deutochrysalis, deutonymph and teleiochrysalis of O. ilicis, 21 to 33°C, ranged from 10.4 to 4.3, 2.4 to 1.2, 2.0 to 1.0, 2.3 to 1.2, 1.9 to 1.0, 3.0 to 1.5 and 2.3 to 1.0 days respectively. The development period ranged from 24.6 days at a temperature of 21 oC, to 11.5 at a temperature of 33 oC. The temperature affected the longevity of adults ranging from 8.5 to 2.3 days at a temperature of 21oC and 33 oC respectively. The total duration of the cycle of O. ilicis ranged from 33.1 to 13.8 days for the temperatures of 21 oC and 33 oC respectively. The lower thermal limit (Tb) for O. ilicis was 9,0 oC for the period from egg to adult and showing thermal constant (K) of 256.4 day-degrees.
