The hulls of coffee Melos has potential in the nutrition of ruminants due to its high content of non-fibrous carbohydrates, and the hydrolysis with calcium hydroxide to improve the digestibility of the fiber. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and digestibility in sheep fed pods of coffee Melos treated with lime. Twenty sheep were blocks according to the treatment considering their initial weights. The treatments consisted of different levels of coffee hulls in place of the coast-cross hay (0, 25, 50 and 75%) in diet of roughage concentrate ratio of 40:60, formulated for gains of 250 g / day second NRC (2006). The diet consisted of hay, corn, soybean meal and mineral mix. The levels of CP of the diets were 18.79, 19.27, 19.75, 20.2%, 39.79, 35.43, 31.06, 26.69 NDF and 66.67%, 67.59, 68.52; 69.45% TDNEST respectively. The hulls was treated with a solution containing 1% of its weight of lime. Data were submitted to analysis of variance, the effects of their average levels were adjusted by polynomial regression when they were significant. The inclusion of the shell did not affect the performance (P=0.62) and consumption of DM (P=0.20), OM (P=0.18), CP (P=0.23), TC (P=0.16) and TDN (P=0.15), but affect the intake of NDF (0.41, 0.42, 0.35, 0.29 kg/day, Y=0.4091+0.00095x- 0.000033x 2 R 2=0.9926) (P=0.0160), (1.1, 1.1, 1.0, 0.86% of BW Y=1.1031 +0.0022x-0.000071x 2 R2=0.9916) (P=0.006). The digestibility of DM (P=0.75), OM (P=0.69), NDF (P=0.61), CP (P=0.17) was not affected by the inclusion of coffee hulls Melos. The fall in consumption of NDF with increasing inclusion of shell accompanying the fall of NDF (%) of diets with the increase of the shell due to the lower content of NDF in the hay, (37.46 vs. 81.83%). The hulls of coffee has potential to be used with inclusion of up to 75% in place of hay, amounting to 30% of the total MS without affecting the other characteristics.
