Entretanto, pouco se sabe sobre a variação dos teores dessa substância em relação à idade da planta, estádios fenológicos do cafeeiro e a distribuição dentro da planta. A presente pesquisa foi desenvolvida com o objetivo de verificar as concentrações foliares (folhas dreno e fonte) de fenóis totais em cafeeiro cv. Obatã 1669-20, em plantas com carga pendente e plantas sem produção, por meio de desbastes manuais. As quantidades de fenóis totais determinadas nas plantas com produção (17,40 mg 100 g-1 e 13,89 mg 100 g-1 folhas dreno e fonte, respectivamente) e sem produção de café (18,65 mg 100 g-1 e 12,76 mg 100 g-1 folhas dreno e fonte, nessa ordem) não variaram. No entanto, a concentração de fenóis totais na folhas novas (dreno) das plantas com e sem produção de café foi maior que a quantidade determinada nas folhas maduras (fonte), da ordem de 25 % e 46 %, respectivamente.Vegetables show natural defense against external factors, through of phenolic compounds synthesis in secondary metabolism. However, the knowledge about these meaning variations of this substance when relationed with plant age is not enough, maturity state and distribution inside the plant. The present research was developed with the purpose of verify total phenols foliars concentrations (sink and source leaves) in coffee tree plants cv. Obatã 1669-20, in plants with hanging load and plants without production, through manual cuts. The determineted amounts of total phenols in the plants with production (17,40 mg 100 g-1 and 13,89 mg 100 g-1 sink and source leaves, respectively) and without production (18,65 mg 100 g-1 and 12,76 mg 100 g-1 sink and source leaves, in this order) did not change.
