Yield, maturation cycle, and estimates of genetic parameters of Robusta coffee genotypes under irrigation in the Cerrado
(Crop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2019) Santin, Mateus Rollemberg; Coelho, Mateus Costa; Sayd, Ricardo Menezes; Peixoto, José Ricardo; Amabile, Renato Fernando
Eighty-five Coffea canephora genotypes were evaluated for three crop seasons under irrigation in the Cerrado of the Distrito Federal, Brazil, to characterize the population regarding phenotype, yield and maturation cycle. The experiment was conducted through the Basic Model of Repeatability without Design methodology. Regarding the cycles, genotypes were divided into four groups with the following periods, in days, from resumption of irrigation to the cherry stage: very early (243-255), early (256-267), medium (268-280), and semilate (281-293). For yield, the repeatability obtained was approximately 33%, a medium value that represents the proportion of the permanent phenotypic variance in relation to the total phenotypic variance. The average repeatability obtained surpassed 59%, and accuracy, with three crop seasons, reached 77%. The selection gains obtained may be higher than 38%. There are promising genotypes for cultivation in the region under study. The mean repeatability and the accuracy obtained favor selection based on phenotypes.

Growth of robusta coffee after the application of herbicides to control Urochloa ruziziensis
(Editora UFLA, 2020) Silva, Karolina Flôres da; Shipitoski, Ricardo Moraes; Costa, Jhene Thais Dittmann da; Nardis, Barbara Olinda; Souza, Paulo Sérgio de; Araujo, Lourismar Martins; Andrade, Fabrício Ribeiro
The growth of coffee plants can be severely affected by competition with other plants, being necessary to the management of these, which can be performed by controls manual, mechanical, biological and chemical methods. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of coffee robusta due to no control of Urochloa ruziziensis (cv. Common) and control by manual weeding and herbicides in post emergence, seeking the most appropriate method. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replicates of four treatments: control (no control of the U. ruziziensis); manual weeding; oxyfluorfen (1.44 kg a.i. ha-1); paraquat + diuron (0.40 + 0.20 kg a.i. ha-1) and glyphosate (1.92 kg a.i. ha-1), with the spray volume equivalent to 200 L ha-1. The herbicides were applied directly on the U. ruziziens plants 60 days after planting. 30 days after treatment, the following were evaluated: a, b and total chlorophyll content, stem diameter, plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, orthotropic and plagiotropic branches, dry shoot biomass, dry root biomass and root growth. U. ruziziens, when not controlled, caused a 42% reduction in the leaf area of robusta coffee in relation to those that were controlled through manual weeding. The herbicide oxyfluorfen and weeding were the most suitable for the control of U. ruziziens in the cultivation of coffee, since they did not affect seedling growth. Failure to control U. ruziziens or weeds leads to reduced growth of robusta coffee plants, except in the height due to the etiolation caused by competition with U. ruziziens.

Genetic progress with selection of Coffea canephora clones of superior processed coffee yield
(Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, 2018-03) Silva, Dulcilene Oliveira da; Ferreira, Fábio Medeiros; Rocha, Rodrigo Barros; Espindula, Marcelo Curitiba; Spinelli, Victor Mouzinho
The aim of this study was to select Coffea canephora clones of superior processed coffee productivity based on the estimates of the genetic parameters and of genetic progress with the plant selection. For this, the production of processed coffee from 130 clones was evalu- ated from 2014 to 2016 in a clonal test, installed in randomized complete blocks with four plants per plot and six replications, spaced 3 × 2m at the experiment station Embrapa Rondônia in the municipality of Ouro Preto do Oeste - RO. The estimation of genetic parameters and predic- tion of genotypic values were performed using REML/BLUP procedure (Restricted Maximum Likelihood/Best Unbiased Linear Prediction). Estimates of the genetic parameters confirmed the predominance of the genetic component in the expression of this trait, indicating the possibil- ity of obtaining gains with the plant selection. Genetic progress of processed coffee productivity from the selection of 10% of the best clones was 49.88%, which is equivalent to an increase in average productivity from 42.57 bags.ha -1 to 66.95 bags.ha -1 . The use of the harmonic mean of the genetic values helped to identify the clones of superior performance, with higher adaptability and stability for the northern region of Brazil.
